Individual Session

Nicole Kelly:
Miss. Reeves County 2010

This session was shot in and around Marfa, TX. Shooting with Nicole was a wonderful experience. This down to earth Miss. Texas competitor showed me that no matter what judges (or people for that matter) say you have to remember that it's just an opinion. Newborn Portrait Session

Abrielle Jaquez

It wasn't hard to capture great images of this beautiful little girl. She slept through ALMOST the entire thing and didn't mind being in the sunlight or in a basket full of comfortable brightly colored yarn. Much to my surprise she even peeked out and let me snap a photo of her with her lovely gray eyes open. My work was made easy by such a wonderfully laid back mother and daughter. Parents are key in any session involving a kid as you know what makes your child laugh, smile and cry.

Special Note to Anoyone Interrested in a Newborn Session

There is no end to the creative possibilities that come with a "newborn photo session", especially when that session takes place in the child's home. Though newborn shoots can be shot outdoors, I highly recommend an indoor location. The reason behind this is being when baby is happy everyone is happy.

Family Portraits

Gipson Family

This Family photo session was taken near down town Fort Worth, Texas.

This session was fun though it seemed like every day that we planned to do it it rained! Luckily we FINALY found a day that not only worked for us, but mother nature as well :) A special thanks to the Gipson family for their patience with the weather. Now as always,  I believe that that greatest pictures can not be planned. The following are my favorite photos from the shoot as well as my favorite moment of this family being... well... a family.

Hannah

photo location: Marfa, TX

Above is my favorite photo from this two-part photo session with my younger sister. I appreciate her willingness to help pose for me as I began experimenting with portraits. To show my appreciation I am also posting a picture of the most MEMORABLE moment during our shoot.

photo location: Marfa, TX

I say that this picture was the "most memorable moment" because of the story behind it. At this point in the photo shoot I had asked Hannah to flair her skirt out the way they did in the olden days to 'curtsey'. This she did do, and I snapped a picture, but a few seconds later when she thought I wasn't paying attention she began to sing "I'm a little teapot short and stout..." so naturally I began to snap away hoping to catch a sill expression on her face. I did not, but I somehow managed (I'll admit after asking her to do it again) to get this wonderful shot. So a special thanks to Hannah for helping out, and for making me laugh while doing what I love.

What To Expect From ALY Photography

Here is my philosophy on photography:

It's not the camera or who's behind it that makes an image spectacular, it's about what's in front of it.

As a photographer I like to take a different approach when it comes to my photo sessions. For starters, most of my shoots take place outdoors so it is important to remember to dress accordingly. If you feel uncomfortable during your session for any reason it WILL show up in your pictures no matter how much I try to edit the images.
Another things I like to do is incorporate things that are important to you and your family in the images as well. For example, if you are a couple looking for engagement photo's I may have you answer a short five question survey about yourselves. A question I might ask would be something like: "where did you meet" or "where was your first date". If your answer is something along the lines of "at a football game" I may try to get a few photos of the two of you on the 50 yard line of a local high school football field. I will not always be able to re-create every memory, but it is a fun angle for photo sessions.
